Nikolaus LaCombe

Nikolaus is a psychometrist and graduate student with a wide range of assessment, research, and
patient care experiences across the lifespan. Originally from Chicago, he received his B.S. in Psychology
from the University of Iowa, where he was a member of the Iowa ADHD & Development Lab and the
Development, Experience, and Neurocognition Lab. After college, he worked for several years at the
University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC). He started as a psychiatric nurse assistant on the inpatient
child & adolescent psychiatry unit and then moved to the outpatient clinic as their pediatric
psychometrist. As a psychometrist, Nikolaus supported the UIHC Stead Family Children’s Hospital
Interdisciplinary Neurocritical Care Team, UI Sports Medicine Concussion Clinic, and the University of
Iowa Athletics programs. Furthermore, he coordinated intake for the adolescent dialectical behavioral
therapy (DBT) program, served on the Patient & Family Advisory Council, and conducted research on
CAG trinucleotide repeats in Juvenile Huntington’s Disease.

After moving to Western Massachusetts, Nikolaus worked as a psychometrist at a pediatric behavioral
health clinic in West Boylston, and at a private practice in Springfield specializing in adults with
Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Nikolaus joined the Learning Solutions team in August
2023, further cementing his passion for working with children and adolescents with
neurodevelopmental disorders. He is in the process of obtaining his M.S. in Psychology from Tiffin
University and is preparing to present his thesis on the suitability of hybrid teleneuropsychology with
elderly adults in May. Outside of work, Nikolaus enjoys cooking, baking, playing trivia, and exploring
New England with his husband and dog.
